ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Arely Velázquez is a Mexican painter who documents emotional encounters and their
intimate display. Her body of work is composed of formal approaches to mixed media on
canvas, portraits and commissioned large-scale site-specific pieces.
Painting cohabits in the creative experience of the materials and interdisciplinary
techniques. The first intention of the stroke is definitive on the canvas, freeing the
expression of the brush and unfolding three decades of creation with color and texture.
Training with virtuoso teachers, Arely Velázquez creates interpretive artworks and moves
comfortably from abstraction to the realism of exact forms.
Portraits that express the possibilities of human relationships live and survive
contemporary family structures scenes, specifically in the decade of 2020. This format is a
profound act and serves as a justification of emotional interpretation. She commits herself
to the challenge of clearly reflecting the essence of the characters.
Velázquez explores the origin of emotional geographies to understand social patterns in
relation to prejudice. These analyses are a common thread in the artist’s work; becoming
emotional encounters that are dealt with, decrypted by color, freed by the brush, translated
by visual patterns, and portrayed by aesthetic structures of what would be perfect but
non-existent worlds.
